A Formation Program for the Ministry of Spiritual Direction

FOR WHOM?
This 2-year formation
process is designed to help persons discern a call to the ministry of
spiritual direction and prepare them for this ministry. Presence is open
to mature Christians who are experiencing a call from God to the ministry

GOALS OF THE PROGRAM/PROCESS
-
To introduce
participants to the theory and practice of spiritual direction
-
To provide
supervision as the participants practice and refine skills in the art of
spiritual direction
-
To provide a
prayerful learning community for the participants while developing their
gifts and deepening their capacity for contemplative listening
-
To engage
participants in the ongoing process of discernment of their call to the
ministry of spiritual direction
-
To foster and deepen
authentic Christian spirituality.
COMPONENTS OF THE PROGRAM
-
Theological
reflection papers on relevant topics, designed to engage the whole
person
-
Opportunities to
nurture one’s own inner life through various spiritual practices
-
Practicum:
experience of directing others and individual supervision
QUALIFICATIONS
-
Mature Christian
adults (aged 35 or older) with evidence of being seriously committed to
an ongoing prayer life, to ministry and to growing in one’s spiritual
journey
-
Regular, ongoing
spiritual direction for at least one year prior to application to the
program
-
Support of one's
local parish/faith community
-
Adequate background
in theology and scripture
-
Openness to learning
from all aspects of the formation program
-
Time and ability to
complete all three components of the program: Reflection Papers,
Experiential and Practicum, including residential components
-
Some initial
indication of being called to the ministry of spiritual direction.

PROGRAM FORMAT
The Program extends from September 2012 to June 2014.

PROGRAM FEES
Program fees are $6500.
ADMISSION
Following receipt of
the application along with the letters of recommendation, applicants will
be called for an interview. Priority will be given to those applicants
who have had ongoing spiritual direction, who have taken an eight-day
retreat or the 19th Annotation, and who meet most of the outlined
qualifications.
