The Healing the Healers Series, part of The Sacred Art Series of Living and Dying Well, explores the art of diagnosing and responding to spiritual suffering, which has universal applications for everyone, particularly professional and family caregivers. These four workshops focus on forgiveness, relatedness, meaning, and hope. Programs are based on a creative learning model that integrates history, science, depth psychology, and spiritual insight with practical tools and clinically tested best practices.

(9:00 am to 5:00 pm each day)
Understanding Spiritual Pain: “We are the medicine”
Learn about the rich cultural history and clinically effective practices for detecting and alleviating spiritual and emotional distress in times of loss, transition, illness, and at the end of life. Discover a Total Pain Management Model with results that include reduced anxiety, improved quality of living, and more effective pain management. Encounter valuable tools and insights in order to examine one’s priorities, address death anxiety, and re-connect one’s “soul and role.”

Richard Groves is the co-founder with his wife, Mary, and Executive Director of the Sacred Art of Living Center. Richard has graduate degrees in theology, world religions, bio-ethics and law. His doctoral thesis focused on diagnosing and addressing spiritual pain from a variety of cultural and psycho-spiritual perspectives. An ordained Catholic priest for 15 years, Richard also served as chaplain in the Oregon Correctional System and as assistant chaplain in the US Air Force.
